Rugged Painted Lark, a 1997 American Paint Horse, is a son of the two-time Super Horse, Rugged Lark, and has a successful showing career in heading, heeling, steer stopping and calf roping. In addition to following in the footsteps of his sire, he travels with owner Lynn Palm to nearly 15 horse expos each year, at which they perform amazing bridle-less routines to music. During each performance, Lynn starts by riding Rugged Painted Lark through reining and dressage movements in a Western saddle before switching to a hunt-seat saddle and completing jumping and dressage movements without a bridle!
Regularly appearing on RFD-TV and The Horse TV Channel to teach viewers about her partnership training program, Lynn often chooses to work with Rugged Painted Lark, affectionately called "Bruce" after actor Bruce Willis.
A model of his breed's versatility, Rugged Painted Lark excels in a variety of events including trail, western riding, hunter hack, pleasure driving, utility driving, working cow horse and reining. This versatility and his gentle temperament and willingness to work are traits that are renowned in the American Paint Horse breed. Their trademark bold, colorful patterns that are now appreciated by Paint Horse enthusiasts all over the country were once revered by Native Americans who utilized the breed's stamina and performance ability as a war horse and hunting mount during the 1800s. Throughout the west, cowboys harnessed the same physical attributes for work on the ranches. Today, the American Paint Horse is ridden in all levels of competition in English Western disciplines and is a great mount for horse lovers of all ages.
